Development of the Twin Amplifier
Fender launched the original Twin in 1952 as a 25-watt 2x12 model that evolved through the brownface period before the 1963 addition of the reverb tank created the Twin Reverb.
Blackface and Silverface Eras
The blackface Twin Reverb from 1963-1967 featured AB763 circuitry with 6L6GC tubes and became the benchmark for clean platform amps, followed by silverface cosmetic changes through the 1970s that retained much of the same voicing.
Notable Users and Influence
The Beatles used Twin Reverbs on recordings such as Revolver, while Stevie Ray Vaughan relied on multiple blackface examples for his Texas blues tone throughout his career.
