Jack White built The White Stripes' garage-blues attack on pawn-shop electrics and two pedals. His main guitar was a red 1964 Valco Airline Res-O-Glas “JB Hutto,” a hollow fiberglass Montgomery Ward catalog guitar with two Valco single-coils. Slide parts and the “Seven Nation Army” riff came from a 1950s Kay archtop wrapped in kraft paper, tuned to open A, and run through a DigiTech Whammy set an octave down plus an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi. Live and on Elephant he split that signal into a Sears Silvertone 1485 Six-Ten and a Fender Twin Reverb.
After the Stripes he moved through Gretsch customs with The Raconteurs and Dead Weather, made a 1964 Fender Vibroverb his favorite Fender, and played an EVH Wolfgang USA on the 2018 Boarding House Reach cycle. The current No Name-era tour is built around Fender’s 2024 signature line: the Jack White Triplecaster Telecaster (humbucker / JW-90 / CuNiFe Wide-Range, Bigsby, Hipshot Xtender, kill switch), the 70-watt Jack White Pano Verb combo (15" Jensen C15N plus 10" Jensen P10R, mixing Vibroverb, Vibrasonic, and Vibro-King ideas), and the Jack White TripleSonic Acoustasonic. The 2024 board still carries the Whammy and a rehoused Big Muff, plus the CopperSound Triplegraph octave/killswitch he designed with Third Man Hardware. The original Kay is still on stage for “Seven Nation Army.”
