We’re excited to launch yet another tool (we know we have too many) the AI Gear Finder (currently in beta), a powerful new tool that helps you personalize how you find music gear. We are unaware of another tool like this, but it is an advanced type of gear search tool that uses questions to find exactly the gear you are looking for.
Unlike using a free AI chat to find gear, you can use our wizard, that has our advanced prompting to help you find gear you want, gear upgrades (based on a piece of gear you already have), upgrades based on a current item you have and more. Put your entire pedalboard in our wizard, enter your music style and let our AI recommend other pedals that would fit rightin your pedalboard!
How the AI Gear Finder Works
The process is straightforward and takes just a few minutes:
- Choose your gear category — Electric guitar, bass, acoustic, pedal/effect, amplifier, synth, keys, studio gear, or accessories.

- Define your goal — Building a rig on a budget, filling a specific slot (e.g., pedalboard gap), finding alternatives or upgrades, exploring new sounds, or starting from a piece you already own.

- Set your budget — From under $100 to $5,000+, or no limit.
- Add details — Genre/style, tone preferences, artist references (if desired), and specifics about your current setup.
- Get results — The AI delivers ranked recommendations with clear explanations and live Reverb listings you can click through to buy. Results are shareable via unique URLs.
Searches take 10–20 seconds while pulling real-time inventory.
Our AI Gear Finder Beats Generic Searches
- Knows your existing gear — List pedals or other items you own so it avoids duplicates and suggests true complements (e.g., the right delay to pair with your existing drives).
- Context-aware — Recommendations shift based on genre (shoegaze reverb vs. country twang), playing environment, and analog/digital preferences.
- Live & actionable — Every suggestion links to current Reverb listings with real prices — not outdated reviews.
- Flexible use cases:
- Fill an empty pedalboard slot
- Find smart alternatives or upgrades
- Stay under budget while maximizing value (used-market savvy)
- Explore unfamiliar categories with guided explanations
Supported categories include guitars, basses, amps, a wide range of pedals (overdrive, reverb, modulation, etc.), synths, and more. Genres span rock, metal, blues, shoegaze, jazz, country, indie, electronic, and others.
Real-World Examples
- Pedalboard gap — Tell it your current drives and delays + shoegaze style → it suggests a fitting reverb or modulation pedal.
- Upgrade path — Reference a specific overdrive and ask for something better in the same price range.
- Budget build — New to bass? Set $300 limit and get solid starter recommendations with explanations.
