About This Listing

Circa 1965 Airline Res O Glas 3/4 size electric guitar.

Originally sold at Gardiner Houlgate guitar auction a few years back and ex Ray Majors (Mott The Hoople , The Yardbirds).

In fairly poor condition, in need of some tlc and selling as spares / repairs , project or a collectable for a Ray Majors / Mott enthusiast.

  • Obvious wear, playing marks, age related dings , scuffs and signs of use.
  • Wear to to the tuner buttons and rippling to the plastic binding around the body in places.
  • Cracks and missing tips to the scratchplate.
  • I think the pickups are original and just missing their 'gold foil' faux grill caps but I'm not sure on this, They have replacement non original cover mounting screws. The pickups are stable but not brilliantly secured to the body/scratchplate so this needs attention.
  • The pickups are working but the electrics are all over the place, I think the internal electrics are mostly replacements , the on/off switches work as do the volume controls but the neck pickup tone isn't working and the neck pickup sounds like it has tone set to 0 (tone dialled in) all the time and the bridge pickup tone sounds like a volume/phase cut in the on position and sounds like tone off in the on position if this makes sense , the long and the short of it is the electrics need attention.
  • You need to be carefull when removing the jack lead due to the condition of the scratchplate.
  • The bridge and tailpiece cover are replacements, the bridge looks like an old Hofner bridge to me and the tailpiece cover is a 60s Vox cover.
  • The nut seems fine, the frets are ok, I don't think the knobs are original. It plays ok but will need some set up work.
  • Comes in a modern Epiphone hard case with pick holder in the pocket ( both originally came with the guitar).

* Please note that the same 3/4 Airline guitar model was also pictured with Eddie Van Halen on the front of guitar world mag circa 1990 - it has the same 2 pickups, similar  knobs , different bridge etc ( I've added a pic to show this at the end of the pics below). - Thanks to fellow ebayer Muzz for this info !!

If no one is interested I may end up parting it out, I recently sold an old Vox tailpiece cover for £130, the case is worth around £100, the Hofner bridge is worth a bit and the old Airline pickups are probably worth a fair bit these days and I think the body and neck would add up.

Free UK postage and will be well packaged and boxed for delivery.
