Brand Origins
Death By Audio was founded in 2002 in New York City by Oliver Ackermann of A Place to Bury Strangers, initially building pedals in a DIY warehouse space before moving to a dedicated Brooklyn workshop.
Pedal Development
The Crossover Fuzz emerged from the brand’s experimentation with frequency-splitting circuits in the mid-2010s, evolving from earlier high-gain models like the Fuzz War to offer more tonal control through its dedicated low/high crossover knob.
Notable Users
Players such as J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., members of The Flaming Lips, and numerous shoegaze and noise-rock acts have incorporated the pedal into rigs for its ability to deliver aggressive, frequency-specific saturation on stage and in studio recordings.
