Wren and Cuff Origins
Wren and Cuff was founded in 2008 by Ryan Clark in Los Angeles with the goal of recreating vintage Soviet-era Big Muff circuits using modern, reliable components. The company quickly gained recognition for its Tall Font Russian and Super Russian models.
Development of the Anna
The Anna circuit was developed in 2014 as a compact adaptation of the Russian topology, voiced with slightly tighter bass response and increased midrange cut to sit better in modern high-gain rigs. Claudio Sanchez received one of the first production units and has used it as his primary fuzz since.
Notable Artists and Evolution
Beyond Sanchez, the Anna has been adopted by players seeking a more pedalboard-friendly Russian Muff tone. Wren and Cuff later released the Anna Compact in 2017, reducing the enclosure size while retaining the same through-hole circuitry and true-bypass switching.
