Ableton's Berlin Roots
Ableton was founded in 1999 in Berlin by Gerhard Behles, Robert Henke, and Bernd Roggendorf, initially focusing on real-time audio manipulation software that became Live in 2001.
Hardware Evolution
After the success of the Push controller series (2013–2023), Ableton released the Move in 2024 as its first fully standalone instrument, shifting from computer-dependent controllers to a self-contained production tool with built-in speakers and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Notable Users and Adoption
Early adopters include artists such as Bonobo, Floating Points, and Four Tet, who have used the Move for on-the-road composition and integration with their existing Ableton Live setups during tours and studio sessions.
