Korg's FM Heritage
Korg entered the FM synthesis market decades after the Yamaha DX7 era, releasing the original Opsix in 2020 as part of a new generation of digital instruments alongside the wavestate and modwave. The company drew on its experience with the Kronos and Radias workstations to create an instrument that retained six-operator FM architecture while adding user-friendly controls.
Launch of the Opsix SE
In 2022 Korg introduced the Opsix SE Special Edition, featuring a solid aluminum front panel, wooden side cheeks, and an improved keybed with aftertouch. Firmware updates added new oscillator types and expanded the modulation matrix, keeping the platform current with evolving production needs.
Notable Users
Artists such as electronic producer Max Cooper and sound designer Richard Devine have incorporated the Opsix series into live rigs and studio work for its ability to generate both classic FM bells and modern, evolving textures.
