John Petrucci (Dream Theater) Guitar Rig

John Petrucci is Dream Theater's guitarist and a central architect of progressive metal, pairing tightly picked high-gain riffs with long, stereo-delayed leads. The Images and Words (1992) sound was the Ibanez JPM100 Picasso-graphic signature into a Mesa/Boogie Mark IIC+, the two-channel Mark he has repeatedly called his holy grail. In 2001 he left Ibanez for Ernie Ball Music Man; the JP6 and its yearly JP sequels were the mid-career stage and studio guitars, usually into Mesa Mark IV then stereo Mark V heads, with a Fractal Axe-Fx II handling delays and modulation in the loop. Since 2014 the neck-through Music Man Majesty (6-, 7-, and 8-string, DiMarzio Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker, piezo) has been the touring guitar, and since 2016 the Mesa/Boogie JP-2C — a three-channel Mark IIC+ reissue with dual graphic EQs and a Shred switch — is the live and rhythm amp.
