Metal Iron Maiden Adrian Smith

Adrian Smith is Iron Maiden's blues-rooted lead guitarist, joining for 1981's Killers and writing many of the band's dual-harmony leads and hit riffs. His classic 1980s sound came from a 1970s Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a red Ibanez Destroyer — gifted in Japan and used to record The Number of the Beast — into Marshall 1959 Super Lead 100-watt stacks. On the Powerslave / Live After Death era he also played a silverburst Lado Earth, with a Dunlop Cry Baby already on the board for wah-driven live solos.

After leaving Maiden in 1990 and returning in 1999 he switched to Fender American Standard Stratocasters with Floyd Rose trems and a Marshall JMP-1 MIDI preamp driving 9200 power amps so he could sit in the three-guitar mix. In 2007 he signed with Jackson; the USA Signature Adrian Smith San Dimas (HSS, Floyd Rose, Super Distortion or Seymour Duncan JB bridge) has been his main stage guitar ever since. Live he now runs two Marshall JVM410H heads into isolation cabs, rack-mounted Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamers, a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus, and a Line 6 HX Effects unit for delay and reverb, still pulling the original Destroyer and Goldtop for classic songs.
