Pair (2x) 1966 VOX Celestion T1217 / T1225 G12H 8Ohm 75Hz 25W Pre Rola Pulsonic Cone Greenback

The VOX T1225 speaker is basically a Celestion T1217 Greenback but sprayed Jennings Silver (Poly Grey) and it is 8Ohm instead of 15Ohm. These were made by Celestion for VOX and are very very rare!

Designed for the 4 and 7 series amplifiers around 1966 these speakers can be found in the VOX JMI UL760, UL7120, UL430, UL460 and UL4120 speaker cabinets, and most likely in some late UL730 and AC30 Super Twin cabs as well as in early runs of Vox Supreme cabinets and a small number of Line Source 60 public address speaker columns.

The date code is stamped on the edge of the gasket and reads 16EL = 16th May 1966 and 22DL which is 22 April 1966

These speakers also have the legendary Pulsonic cones, stamped 29 102 003, the 75Hz lead cone.

During the Sgt. Pepper sessions, one of The Beatles’ Vox UL730 amplifiers was photographed with Celestion T1225 speakers. A number of 730 cabs produced around October 1966 evidently had Celestion T1225 ceramic speakers, rather than silver alnicos. The cabs that the Beatles had on stage at the Savoy Theatre for the Hello Goodbye promo video on 10 November 1967 certainly had T1225s. The amps on stage were Conquerors, and the cabs 730s with ceramic T1225 speakers.

These speakers represented Vox’s move away from the silver alnico Celestions found in many earlier cabinets and toward higher-powered ceramic drivers. The T1225 was a Vox-spec G12H, while the nearly identical T1279 would later appear in other Vox models of the period.

The last 2 pictures capture an interesting moment in Vox history, showing The Beatles with some of the company’s newest gear just as Vox was moving into the hybrid and solid-state era.
