Chet Atkins is a rare genius guitarist who, despite his roots in country music, incorporated numerous musical genres and elevated them to new heights.

This historic model was born in the early 1980s when Chet Atkins parted ways with Gretsch—which he had endorsed for many years—and formed a partnership with Gibson. This model, the “Country Gentleman,” is a semi-acoustic guitar in which Gibson has embodied Atkins’s commitment to balancing feedback suppression with a rich, natural tone.

It features a 17-inch-wide laminated maple body made from maple with a subtle flame pattern.

The center block is made of lightweight balsa wood rather than maple, giving it a warm, resonant tone.

It features a 3-piece maple neck with a 25 1/2-inch scale ebony fingerboard.

It also features the thumbnail inlays familiar from Gretsch guitars.

It is equipped with genuine Gibson 492R and 490T pickups. The 490 and 492 are low-output pickups within the Gibson lineup, delivering a clear tone.

It features a Bigsby B3 tremolo system.

The controls consist of a master volume knob located on the horn near the first string, individual pickup volume controls, and a master tone control. This layout also carries on Gretsch’s traditional control configuration.

The tuners are crank-style, typical of that era. These are custom-made Schaller tuners with a handle built into the mechanism. Simply put, they allow you to turn the pegs quickly, much like a string winder. Although rarely seen today, they were used on some high-end models at the time.

The Gibson Country Gentleman was manufactured until 2005, following the death of Chet Atkins. However, production numbers were relatively low, making it a rare model that is seldom found even on the secondhand market.
