Fender Japan launched the Traditional line as a spiritual successor to older Japanese vintage-reissue series. It was specifically designed to offer players the distinct styling, ergonomics, and tonal character of specific golden-era decades (in this case, the 1960s) without the higher price tag of American-made vintage reissues. Unlike strict historical reissues that use a very round vintage 7.25-inch fretboard radius, the modern MIJ Traditional series subtly updates playability by utilizing a flatter 9.5-inch radius. This configuration prevents notes from choking out during bends and allows for a lower, more modern string action while keeping the aesthetic strictly period-correct.
