I am the original owner of this one off Flea Bass that was auctioned off by Modulus themselves in 2002 to raise money for the Childrens Relief Fund for children of the victims of the September 11th tragedy.
This signed prototype bass features a custom airbrushed American flag, a carbon fiber neck, bass lines pickups and a badass bridge. Flea signed this bass "Love Flea" and drew his grinning logo. He also drew his logo onto the Certificate of Authenticity along with the President of Modulus at the time, the legendary Rich Lasner. Every employee that worked on this bass also signed the inside copper shielding of the back plate.
In speaking with Rich Lasner after winning the auction, he told me that this body was one of 5 that were sent to Flea to select for his new Modulus signature bass that was in the works at the time, and this is the one he picked. Modulus kept this body tucked away until they decided to break it out after the events of 911 for their private auction. They had it professionally airbrushed, added a new carbon fiber neck and then had Flea come in to sign it.
This bass has spent 99.9% of the last 25 years in a custom made plexiglass display case and only played for one song at a fundraiser in '06. There are no nicks, scratches, dings etc. the bass itself is in perfect condition. Part of the "L" and part of the "V" in "Love Flea" have been smudged as can be seen in the close up photo. The rest of the signature is untouched.
I will be loading a video in the next few days for a more in depth look at this beast and can also provide any custom photos serious buyers may be interested in.
This bass comes with the original branded hard shell case and case candy
