This is a MODIFIED Friedman Dirty Shirley Mini 20w head that has brand new JJ EL-84 output tubes and JJ 12AX7 preamp tubs. The original circuit sounds thin and has a harsh distortion sound that is unpleasing to the ear, however the original circuit was loosely designed around a JCM800 circuit, so we decided to reconfigure the preamp circuit to match the JCM800 preamp from input all the way to unbalancing the phase inverter (this is done to eliminate oscillation). Additionally, the entire signal path in the original circuit is fed through a buffered effects loop that cannot be turned off, so we bypassed the effects loop by completely removing it from the amplifier circuit and chassis. The overall effect of these specific modifications has sweetened the tone of the amp, provided a more natural and less harsh gain, and opened up the amp with a cleaner signal path and more natural harmonics and sustain. The original mini toggle on the front panel still functions as it should and was left untouched as it worked very well (the switch is basically a Soldano mod that changes up or down the gain structure).
This amp can be very loud and easily power a 4x12 cabinet at only 20-watts. It can achieve JCM800 and PLEXI tones by dialing in the master volume in conjunction with the gain pot. Both master and gain knobs are effectively volume knobs, so crank one and use the other for volume (gain or master) to get a multitude of classic Marshall tones. This amp also takes pedals very well.
1 - 16ohm speaker output for (1) 16ohm cab/load
2 - Parallel speaker outputs for a total impedance of 8ohms to accommodate (2) 16ohm cabs/loads OR can use either of these two jacks to power only (1) 8ohm cab.
This is a fantastic and powerful sounding amplifier that has a clean bill of health.
Comes w/ power supply cable
