Ibanez is one of Japan's most internationally renowned guitar brands. Among its lineup, the j.custom series represents the pinnacle of Ibanez craftsmanship, combining carefully selected tonewoods with the exceptional precision and expertise of highly skilled Japanese luthiers.

Ibanez is often associated with guitars designed for high-speed, technical playing, but the appeal of the j.custom series goes far beyond that. From the selection of tonewoods and precise neck construction to meticulous fret finishing, every detail is carefully considered to achieve the highest possible level of quality and refinement.

The newly arrived RG8570 perfectly embodies everything that makes the j.custom series special. One of its most striking features is the vibrant Royal Blue Sapphire finish, with beautifully figured flamed maple shimmering beneath its deep blue surface.

The top features 4mm-thick Selected AAA Flamed Maple.

Unlike the thin decorative veneers commonly used on some guitars, this model features a substantial layer of carefully selected maple.

The distinctive striped figuring known as flame develops naturally as the wood fibers form a wavy pattern during the tree's growth. When the wood is cut at the appropriate angle, these patterns become visible. Because the grain reflects light differently across its surface, the figuring appears to rise and recede depending on the viewing angle, giving the wood a constantly changing appearance.

Royal Blue Sapphire is a finish that beautifully showcases this natural figuring. The way the grain emerges from the deep blue surface creates an almost jewel-like appearance, reminiscent of looking into the depths of a sapphire.

Beneath this stunning maple top lies an African Mahogany body.

African Mahogany generally refers to wood from the Khaya genus. Although botanically different from traditional Central and South American mahogany, it has long been appreciated as a tonewood for guitars. It is often associated with a rich, full-bodied midrange and low-midrange response. Combined with the harder maple top, this construction aims to deliver both a clear, defined attack and a rich, substantial tonal foundation.

The neck is another area where the attention to detail characteristic of j.custom becomes immediately apparent.

Its five-piece Maple/Wenge construction is designed with the rigidity and stability required for an exceptionally thin neck in mind. Wenge is a dense hardwood native to Africa, characterized by its dark brown color and distinctive black grain lines. By laminating woods with different grain orientations and physical properties, Ibanez achieves the remarkably slim Super Wizard neck profile while maintaining structural stability.

The back of the neck also features Ibanez's Velvetouch finish. In addition to its smooth, comfortable feel, this finish helps minimize friction against the player's hand, allowing effortless movement between positions.

The rosewood fingerboard is adorned with the iconic Tree of Life inlay, one of the defining visual features of the j.custom series.

Its intricate vine-like design extends gracefully across the fingerboard, representing an artistic approach that goes far beyond conventional position markers. Combined with the brilliant Royal Blue Sapphire body, it gives the entire instrument a distinctive sense of elegance and luxury.

Another essential feature is the j.custom Fret Edge Treatment.

Each fret end is individually and carefully rounded to minimize any sharpness or discomfort along the edges of the fingerboard, allowing exceptionally smooth fingering.

Unlike the spectacular wood figuring or elaborate inlays, this is a detail that is difficult to appreciate through photographs alone. However, it is precisely the kind of craftsmanship that becomes immediately noticeable when you actually hold and play the guitar.

The pickups feature a versatile H-S-H configuration, combining DiMarzio's Air Norton, True Velvet, and The Tone Zone.

The neck position delivers thick, smooth lead tones, while the middle pickup offers the clarity and definition characteristic of a single coil. The bridge position provides a powerful, full-bodied drive sound with plenty of presence and punch.

This combination is equally suited to technical playing and a wide variety of musical styles that incorporate clean, crunch, and high-gain sounds.

The j.custom philosophy is not simply about using beautiful, premium tonewoods. It is about transforming those materials into an instrument of exceptional precision and playability.

The spectacular visual appearance and the outstanding craftsmanship that becomes apparent the moment you pick it up are equally important parts of the j.custom experience.

With its striking Royal Blue Sapphire finish and the meticulous attention to detail expected from Ibanez's flagship Japanese-made series, the RG8570 is a truly remarkable instrument.

We highly recommend taking this opportunity to experience it for yourself.
