Oberheim Eclipse 88-Key Digital Controller / Piano – 1995–96 – Made in Italy – Integrated Road Case
The Oberheim Eclipse is an unusual and relatively uncommon mid-1990s digital stage piano and MIDI controller from one of the most celebrated names in synthesizer history. Introduced in 1995, the Eclipse combined an 88-note weighted keyboard with velocity response and aftertouch, onboard digital sounds and effects, extensive MIDI capability, and an exceptionally rugged design built directly into its own aluminum road case. Oberheim's original advertising described it as a “stereo digital piano” that doubled as a MIDI controller, with adjustable dynamics, aftertouch, multiple keyboard instruments, bass, an independent string section and built-in multi-effects. A contemporary March 1996 Sound On Sound review described the Eclipse as sturdy and well made and was particularly complimentary about its acoustic piano sounds. The Eclipse offers 12 preset sounds along with onboard reverb and modulation effects, making it a straightforward but very capable stage instrument as well as an imposing 88-key MIDI controller. This example is Made in Italy and remains in very nice vintage condition. The keyboard itself shows relatively light cosmetic wear for its age, with some small marks and signs of use to the top panel. The original integrated Oberheim flight case shows the expected scratches, scuffs and road wear from transportation. Please see all photographs for condition.
