Made in 1968 in Germany, this Hofner Model 448 acoustic guitar is a wonderful piece of European luthiery history. This vintage folk-style instrument features a stunning striped sapele mahogany back and sides, complemented by a clean, straight-grained top. Its historical provenance is fully verified by the rare, original gold scroll medallion label visible inside the soundhole, which features the hand-penciled assembly year of 1968. In the hand, the neck features a substantial, comfortable vintage 'C' profile that offers a satisfying, solid grip without feeling overly bulky. The guitar plays smoothly across the fingerboard with comfortable action. Tonally, it delivers a wonderfully seasoned, woody voice; the aged sapele mahogany produces a warm, punchy midrange and crisp note definition that makes it an absolute joy for both fingerpicking and vintage folk strumming.

Cosmetically, this guitar is in great used condition for its age. The finish has aged gracefully over nearly six decades, showcasing a beautiful, authentic vintage patina and some minor cosmetic wear typical of a well loved instrument. The neck is straight, the intonation is spot on and the action is excellent. Please note that the factory bridge assembly is missing the single metal piece that typically attaches to the two top screw points; however, the bridge remains fully functional and secure, and the guitar still plays and sounds absolutely fantastic without it. There is some very minor fret wear apparent on the top few frets but this will not impact the playability of the guitar. This guitar has been professionally set up with new strings and weighs in at a comfortable 3 pounds, 8 ounces.
