Up for sale, a 1967 Guild Starfire III in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Marketed to the “young artist with a flair for showmanship,” this vintage USA-made Guild was crafted at the company’s Hoboken, NJ factory, loaded with a pair of Guild’s Anti-Hum humbuckers. Setting this model apart from the Starfire II, additional features include a Guild-branded Bigsby vibrato tailpiece and corresponding aluminum Bigsby bridge.
Lightweight at 6lbs 7oz, the fully-hollow thinline mahogany body is paired with a mahogany neck and bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard, producing a natural acoustic tone that's bold and sweet with a clear treble cut and the foundational warmth of the fully hollow construction. Arguably the pickup which has become synonymous with the Starfire model, the original Anti-Hum pickups (colloquially known as mini HB-1s) are slightly smaller in stature than a full-size humbucker, delivering a powerful, articulate range of tones with excellent definition and warmth. These pickups have a certain attack and immediacy, with a sparkling treble register and taut, woody wound strings. This Starfire III benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Cherry Red nitro lacquer finish exhibits subtle checking, with a couple small areas of wear central to the back and on the treble-side lower bout rim. There’s modest pick wear across the strum path, with some additional minor marks and finish scratches. The neck profile gloss shows palm wear down to the bare mahogany along much of the carve.
A hardshell case is included.
