Brand Origins
Squier began in 1890 as a string manufacturer in Battle Creek, Michigan, and was acquired by Fender in 1965. In 1982 Fender launched the Squier brand to produce affordable guitars in Japan and later Korea, directly copying the Stratocaster design under license.
Model Evolution
Early Squier Strats such as the JV series and Bullet models established the brand's reputation for solid construction. Subsequent lines including Affinity, Contemporary, and Classic Vibe series introduced upgraded pickups, roasted maple necks, and improved finishes while maintaining the core Stratocaster specifications.
Notable Artists
Many professional players started on Squier instruments; John Mayer recorded early demos on a Squier Strat, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day has used Squier models in the studio, and numerous indie and punk bands continue to rely on them for their straightforward, reliable performance.
