Set Up a Gear Alert in 60 Seconds – Never Miss Your Dream Music Gear Again on eBay or Reverb

As much as I love hunting for gear, the reality is that life gets busy — and constantly refreshing eBay and Reverb gets tiresome. I’ve missed out on too many great guitars, pedals, amps, and basses simply because I didn’t have time to check listings every day.  That frustration is exactly why I built Gear Alerts into SearchMusicGear. The idea was simple: instead of me (or you) manually searching over and over, the system would continuously scan eBay and Reverb for new listings and the price range that match exactly what you’re looking for. Set your keywords, price range, condition preferences — and let the alerts do the rest. When something matches, you get a clean email notification. No more missed opportunities.

Why gear alerts work so well

The best part about Gear Alerts isn’t just that they work — it’s how effortlessly they fit into your life. Once you set one up, the system keeps working in the background so you don’t have to.

Here's why so many of our users (and me) love them:

  • Fast setup — You can create a fully customized alert in under 60 seconds.
  • Works with any gear — Search for guitars, pedals, amps, synths, basses, drums, or even rare vintage pieces on both eBay and Reverb.
  • Smart filtering — Set your ideal price range, condition (mint, excellent, good, etc.), and keywords so you only get relevant matches — no spam or junk listings.
  • Instant notifications — Get emailed the moment a matching item appears or drops in price. No more daily manual checks.
  • Never miss that “white whale” again — Whether it’s a specific model you’ve been hunting for years or a great deal that appears randomly, you’ll know about it right away.

How to Set Up a Gear Alert in Under 60 Seconds

Setting up your first alert is ridiculously simple. No complicated forms, no extra accounts, and no tech skills required.

Here’s exactly how it works:

Step 1: Search for the gear you want

Head to the search bar on our site searchmusicgear.com and type in what you’re hunting for.

Examples:

"Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s Faded" (So classic and warm sounding)
"Highwind Amplification DIREWOLF" (I love weird boost pedals!)
"ESP E-II Arrow NT" (What a shape!!)
or even something super specific like “1960s Fender Jazz Bass Sunburst”

Found a sweet one, but man it's a little out of my price range. Maybe a cheaper one in the same condition will become available soon.

Step 2: Find a listing (or the whole search) and click “Set Up Alert”

Once your results appear, you’ll see a “Set Up Alert” button on individual listings or right at the top of the search results page. Click it.

Step 3: Customize your alert

A simple pop-up will appear. Our system is smart enough to pre-fill in the gear type, model and a price 15% below the one you are looking at, but set any price you want! I wil leave the 15% less. Fill in what matters to you:

Price range – e.g., “under $650” or “$400–$750”
Condition – Mint, Excellent, Good, etc.
Keywords – Add extra details like “original case,” “no mods,” or “vintage”
Platforms – eBay, Reverb, or both (default is both)

You only have to do this once — the system remembers everything.

Step 4: Enter your email, name the alert and activate

Type in your email address, hit “Create Alert”, and you’re done!

You’ll get an immediate confirmation email, and then daily updates whenever something new matches.

Confirm email comes immediately!

Don't forget to confirm it by clicking the "Activate My Alert" button in the email! We are hardcore about spam, so please confirm or you won't get your alerts!

That’s it — under a minute from start to finish.

Bonus: Managing your alerts

Once you have alerts running, you can view, edit, or delete them anytime from your account dashboard (link appears in every alert email). Free users can have up to 3 active alerts at once.

Happy gear hunting!
