June delivered some seriously cool vintage and vintage-inspired pieces so far this month. I have been looking at a lot of vintage gear lately and found some interesting finds; from early '50s Harmony oddities to modded Gibsons and high-end Pre-CBS Fender basses, the market continues to reward hunters who know what to look for. Here are my standout finds—each with its own story, personality, and playability that makes it worth considering.
1. 1973 EVH-Style Fender Stratocaster ($2,000)

This 1973 Strat got a bold makeover with an Eddie Van Halen-inspired striped orange-and-black refin. Under the hood, it’s a player’s guitar: alder body, maple neck with rosewood board, 7.25" radius, and a DiMarzio Crunch Lab in the bridge. It’s been upgraded with Schaller tuners, a Floyd Rose, and a solid 4-bolt neck conversion. Weighs in at a comfortable 8.6 lbs and ready to shred. Perfect for anyone chasing that early Van Halen tone without the collector price.

2. 1961 Gibson Melody Maker – Blue Refinish P-90 SG Killer ($3,500)

A heavily modded but killer 1961 Melody Maker refinished in blue with a roadworn/relic’d look and Lollar P-90s. This thing rips—great playability and that classic P-90 growl in a lightweight, SG-like package. The conversion and aging give it serious character while keeping the vintage bones intact. If you want vintage Gibson vibe with modern bite, this one stands out.

3. 1952 Harmony Stratotone H-44 Copper ($2,998)

First-year production solidbody with neck-thru construction—super rare and cool. Light weight, fast neck, rosewood board, and that unique copper finish. Famous in the hands of players like Tom Waits, Ritchie Valens, and Howlin’ Wolf. Comes with a newer hard case. This is a collector’s piece that also feels great on stage or in the studio. Early Harmonys like this don’t come around every day.

4. Fender Precision Bass 1958/1959/1963 Parts-Caster Style ($12,000)

A premium vintage bass build: 1958 maple neck, 1959 body (both original finish), 1963 pickups and pots. Recently refretted, Plek’d, and professionally setup. Includes original case and extra parts. While it’s a mix of years and has some non-original bits (reverse tuners, bridge), the tone and playability of these early Pre-CBS Precisions are legendary. A serious investment piece for bassists chasing authentic ’60s thump.

A fun, affordable USA-made Lead II from the ’80s with a cool blue sparkle refin. These short-scale, humbucker-equipped models are underrated players—light, comfortable, and versatile. Great entry into vintage Fender territory or a fun mod platform. Excellent value at this price point. $599 for a USA Fender, definitely gotta check this out.

Vintage Fenders and Gibsons (especially modded players) remain strong as usual, while quirky ’50s pieces like the Harmony offer unique character at slightly more accessible collector prices. The high-end Pre-CBS bass shows that proven provenance and pro setups still command premiums.
