Gear You Can't Afford This Week: Rock Star Prices, Normal Person Regrets

This week we’re diving deep into studio (and stage) insanity prices as usual — proper vintage recording gear and rock royalty pieces that cost more than a few college semesters (actually maybe not anymore). If your wallet just whimpered, that’s normal. Let’s meet the offenders.

1962 Gibson Country Western – The Museum Piece Formerly Toured by Jimmy Page, Cat Stevens & Dusty Springfield (~$298,000)

This isn’t just a guitar — it’s a walking (and slightly battle-scarred) piece of 1960s British pop/rock history. Owned by producer Mike Hurst, it recorded Dusty Springfield hits, hung out with Jimmy Page, powered Cat Stevens’ early smashes, and picked up a few war wounds along the way (thanks, Bobby Vee). Full provenance included. Basically, if this guitar could talk, it would tell you to stop daydreaming and go mow lawns for the next 47 years.

Buy this guitar now!!

Moog Modular IIIC – Ex-Ennio Morricone (~$475,000)

Yes, that Ennio Morricone. The man who made whistling and epic orchestral tension sound cool. This fully original Modular IIIC is in spectacular condition and could probably score your next grocery run in haunting cinematic glory. At nearly half a million dollars, it’s less “synthesizer” and more “soundtrack to your financial ruin.”

Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive (Short Tail, ~$92,000)

Does anyone really understand the Klon thing? I have heard them... do they sound magical? Anyway... The mythical gold Klon that guitarists whisper about like it’s the Holy Grail. This one’s mint, never gigged, and basically lived in a temperature-controlled vault. For $92k you get legendary transparent overdrive… and the eternal questions: “Why didn’t I just buy a new car instead?” At least this one won’t depreciate as fast as your 401(k).

1959 Gibson Les Paul – Lenny Kravitz (~$595,000)

A stunning early ’59 Burst with provenance straight from Lenny Kravitz himself (signed letter included). Used in the studio and occasionally live. Honey-burst beauty with Birdseye maple top and PAFs that probably smell like rock & roll success. Can it be any better than a regular USA Les Paul? We all know the answer to that, NO! But this is a collectors item, so these are always priced as expected! Hoping for the crazy fan with endless cash.

If that person is you, buy it here!

Aristona EW5504 Stereo Reel-to-Reel Recorder (~$3.2 million)

Yes, you read that right. Over three million dollars for a vintage reel-to-reel with new belts and a dust cover. I’m not sure if this is a typo, performance art, or the seller is just testing how many zeros the internet will tolerate before someone clicks “Buy.” Either way, congratulations — you’ve found the most expensive tape machine on the planet. It better come with a personal butler and a private studio.

If any of these bad boys end up in your collection this week, please send pics… and maybe a spare room key so I can come visit (and cry softly in the corner). Until next time, keep dreaming — just don’t check your bank balance afterward.
