About This Listing

I have a 2018 G6228 Players Edition Jet with its hard shell case. This is a lightweight specimen weighing 7 lb 10.5 oz. The color is Dark Cherry Metallic. It is stock with the exception of USA Jim Dunlop strap buttons, correctly installed with felt cloth washers underneath them.

Conditionally this guitar looks nice with some light to average playwear that I will describe for you.

The body top shows one small chip in the finish near the lower strap button. This is a micro mark that is about a millimeter or less in size. There is a little bit of surface scuffing around the mark. I found one even smaller mark near the bridge, more of a surface indentation than a chip, again about a millimeter or less in size, roughly the size of a dulled pencil tip. Beyond those two minor marks, the rest of the body top looks excellent. Any superficial swirling will be minimal. There are no clusters or patterns of any soft playwear. There will be just faint scattered traces of it only.

The body sides and edges look excellent across the perimeter. I found one small mark on the upper body edge that is about 1.5 mm in size. This is a little round light spot in the finish, which is the guitar equivalent of a bruise rather than a break. So it is not a chip or a ding, just a tiny clouding spot. Beyond that there are only faint superficial signs of use, with no other notable marks or playwear.

The body back shows three small finish marks that are about 1 to 2 mm in size. These are faint little surface impressions. In addition, there are about a handful of tiny superficial surface indentations that barely impress into the finish, each about a millimeter in size. There is no buckle rash or worming, nor did I find any accumulation of lower intensity playwear. Any superficial swirling will be minimal and scattered, with no formed clusters or buildup. The gloss finish looks transparent and clean back here.

The neck shaft contour looks excellent throughout with nothing to report there. On the tip of the headstock I found four little micro clouding marks. Again, these are tiny dot sized finish marks where the finish has a faint light spot. I did not find any chips or dings or anything that breaks through the finish. The face of the headstock looks nice and clean with nothing to report there. The frets are tall and meaty, showing just faint traces of use on the first few frets, but nothing sinking in deep. I would describe it as the very beginning of fret wear, with no pits or divots. The setup plays fantastic. This is one of the better playing guitars I have had this month. It is able to achieve a nice low action with no buzzing. The original electronics are working as they should. The hard shell case is in very good condition.

This one rates an 8.5/10 and grades as very good. I found a variety of small marks, with just one tiny finish chip on the body top. The rest of the noted playwear consists of very small cosmetic imperfections that require close scrutiny to find. As a result, the overall appearance and luster of the guitar are actually closer to excellent. It has no buildup of pattern playwear and no penetrating finish scratches. It is structurally and sonically sound, and it plays phenomenally.

As for the guitar it is an exceptional Gretsch even within their diverse lineup. It has a medium weight and singlecut shape. Which is the very ergonomic and comfortable to play. Many Gretsch's especially the Chet Atkins line, are Huge in terms of their size and mass. So this one definitely has a player friendly feel and size to it.

Tonally it sounds a little more dense and solid then the semi hollow Gretsch models. To my ears it sounds a bit like a more refined and open Les Paul. The pickups allow for really good articulation of gain. You can actually crank the overdrive and still get a nice hard rock sound out of this guitar if desired.

The cleans have a nice dramatic and dynamic character that Gretsch's are known for. Where this guitar differs from most singlecuts is it in no way has a boomy or muddy sound. Heavy singlecuts have a fat bass sound but this can smother the upper mids and highs. the engineered chambered body here is going to give you more bloom and full extension and expression of the upper mids and treble frequencies while at the same time giving you smoothed over sweet sounding treble frequencies that are not harsh or edgy.

The guitar has a nice touch sensitive attack and has what i call a "woody" tone. It has a lot of detail and layers or tiers of tonal frequencies.

So overall it's a great guitar from a great brand. You can really do no wrong with the core made in Japan Gretsch line. It really comes down to finding the model that appeals to you personally at the right price and condition point. This model to me has a little more rock character then country in my opinion. It really loves power chords with overdrive.

Note that this listing may come down at anytime as I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally and on my own Site as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged on Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that in to your purchase.

I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always Marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.

Thank you for reading and considering!
