The Nocaster name references a specific and historically significant moment in the Fender Telecaster's production history. When Leo Fender introduced the Broadcaster in 1950, Gretsch objected to the name on trademark grounds β Gretsch already used "Broadcaster" on their drum kits. Fender's response was to clip the "Broadcaster" decal from the headstock entirely while new "Telecaster" decals were being produced, resulting in a brief production window of instruments that left the factory with no model name on the headstock at all. Collectors call them Nocasters. The name stuck, and it has become the specific designation for guitars built to the earliest Fender Telecaster specification β the thick U neck profile, three-saddle bridge with brass barrel saddles, blackguard black pickguard, and the blonde finish that defined the first year of Telecaster production.
The Vintera II 50s Nocaster is Fender's most thorough recreation of that specification in the current MIM lineup. The thick 50s U neck at .939" at the first fret and .980" at the twelfth is the full, hand-filling profile that players who grew up on slim modern necks sometimes need time to appreciate β and then never want to put down. The 7.25" fingerboard radius is the vintage Fender spec that produces the comfortable, slightly rounded feel of the original instruments. The vintage-style 50s single-coil pickups read 7.19k neck and 6.81k bridge β the neck reading is notably warm and full for a Tele neck pickup, and the bridge at 6.81k is correctly voiced for the bright, cutting Tele bridge character without being harsh. Brass barrel saddles, three-saddle bridge, Switchcraft switch, alder body, all original throughout. Near mint condition. Action set at 2/32" on both strings at the twelfth fret. At 7 lbs 6 oz this is a well-balanced instrument. Original Fender gig bag included.
A great playing guitar that shows what the Fender plant in Mexico is capable of!
