Other features worth mentioning, Gold Hardware with a Solid Brass Thumb Rest and a Solid High-Mass Brass Bridge, 34" Scale, One-Piece Maple Neck with a 7 1/4" Radius Fretboard, Medium Jumbo Frets, Bone Nut and a Candy Apple Red Color Matched Headstock.
This bass has a reasonable amount of finish wear for its 46 years on this planet, mostly in the form of nicks, dents and dings. The finish, both on the body and face of the headstock has a texture to it that we're not sure how it got that way. Looking at pics of other Precision Specials out there, they look to have the same thing going on, although not mentioned in their listings. It looks like overspray. However, under a black light, it does not appear to be. It could be age or that it came into contact with something that caused some sort of reaction. Regardless, it does not affect the playability in any way and you really have to get close to even see it. The original frets are in Excellent Condition and will offer great playability for quite some time. All aspects work as they should. The passive function has a mellow, classic tone, perfect for any style. If you want more, simply click the mini switch over for a hotter, punchier active output. No breaks or repairs to speak of.
The Gruhn Guide states that these basses were built from Alder. Some of the research we've done online suggests that they were Ash constructed. It's possible that Fender used both types of wood, over it's production years. There was also a Walnut constructed version produced at the same time. Our shop scale tells us that it clocks in at 11.5lbs, so we have reason to believe that it is Ash. All of the cavities are painted over, which makes it difficult to tell for sure. Don't let that scare you though, this is as solid a bass as you'll ever come across with plenty of Vintage Cred to boot.
Sale includes the bass and it's original Fender Hardshell Case. Weight is 11.5lbs.
