"Look mammie: it's a baby Plexi!!"
As you already know by now we are absolute suckers for 18WATT & 20WATT Marshall amplifiers.
With pubs and clubs demanding lower stage volumes these little 20WATT amps allow you to get "that" Marshall tone at a reasonable volume - plus they take pedals great. As the 50 and 100 Watt amps become less attractive for home/gigging/recording because of their sheer loudness, these little 20's are sure to become more collectable. And don't forget: a 2 x EL84 20WATT cranked Marshall amp through a 2x12 or 4x12 cab is still pretty loud!!!
There are 2 different models of this amplifier: The model 2061 Lead & Bass 20 and the model 1917 P.A. 20, but they are basically the same amp, just marketed for a different audience.
The PA20 is plain and simple with only two controls for each channel: Tone and Volume. Itβs easy to make these amps sound really good - βjumperβ the two channels together and put everything on MAX! Even though the amp is only 20 Watts, at full tilt it is pretty damn loud!! This can be tamed by jumpering the channels and turn the bass channel all the way down until you find that sweetspot, making it an incredibly flexible amp, whether in the studio, at home or for live performance.
The sweetly distorted, harmonically rich, thick, musical tones result from the power tubes being overdriven. As a result, when βcrankedβ the PA20 is incredibly touch-sensitive, cleaning up or, if desired, sitting right on the edge of distortion when the guitarβs volume is turned down. It responds well to picking dynamics too. The two channels have their own high and low input. Channel one is known as the lead channel and has the classic Marshall tone. The second channel know as the bass channel is somewhat darker sounding and is voiced for a tighter low-end.
This particular version dates to 1973 and is in excellent condition. Internally and externally in 100% original condition. The original T2650 D.E. Power Transformer and C2116 D.E. Output Transformer (with 4, 8, 16Ohm lugs), old stock vintage tubes will make it sound like it's big brother :-)
Also convenient is that it has a manual 110-250 Voltage selector, meaning you can simply change the selector to your voltage requirements anywhere in the world!
