πŸ“ About This Listing

Item condition: Tested and in very good condition. The only issue I've noticed is that the main output jack feels a little loose, even though it works fine. The headphone jack fits tighter and delivers exactly the same stereo signal as the output jack, so you can use that instead, if you wish. Includes USB cable and the original box.

Product description: The Roland JP-08 is a compact, digital synthesizer module from Roland's Boutique series that recreates the sound and interface of the classic 1981 Jupiter-8 synthesizer. Utilizing Roland's Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) modeling technology, it emulates the original analog circuitry within a highly portable form factor measuring 12" wide, 5" deep, and 2" high, and weighing around 2 pounds. The desktop unit features a metal top and back plate, and its front panel is equipped with 55 miniaturized controlsβ€”including 20mm short-throw sliders and rotary knobsβ€”that closely mimic the dual-layered layout of the original Jupiter-8. It can operate on four AA batteries or USB bus power, and includes a small, built-in speaker for standalone use. Users can sequence and play the module via external MIDI connections, or they can mount the synth into optional accessories like the K-25m 25-key mini-keyboard unit or the DK-01 dock.

While the JP-08 aims to capture the tonal characteristics of its predecessor, it natively operates as a 4-voice polyphonic synthesizer rather than an 8-voice instrument. However, a built-in Chain Mode allows users to connect multiple JP-08 units via MIDI to double or further expand the total polyphony. The unit's sound engine also introduces several sonic enhancements over the original Jupiter-8, such as adding a sine wave and noise to VCO-1, extended 64' and 32' oscillator footages, and new triangle wave and noise options in the LFO section. Further specifications include a 16-step monophonic sequencer, an integrated 24-bit/44.1kHz USB audio interface, and two touch-sensitive ribbon controllers used for pitch bend and modulation. For physical connectivity, the module's rear panel houses 5-pin MIDI In and Out ports, a micro USB port, and 3.5mm stereo jacks for audio input, audio output, and headphones.
