πŸ“ About This Listing

****If UPS ground insured shipping through Reverb is less than $150, your account will be refunded the difference. If over $150, no extra charge.

For your consideration is this 1979 (could be early 1980) Champ from my personal collection. Has been in my home studio for the last 20 years. Selling due to retirement.

There are several reasons why this one is special.

1) All original except for the speaker. Dead quiet with controls wide open. No odd or unwanted sounds.

2) Emminence 820H 4 ohm speaker is one of the best possible speakers for this amp. Sounds really great. Tames the highs and holds the lows perfectly. You can overdrive with pedals with no worries at all. You'll be surprised at just how loud this one hand portable bad boy can get.

3) All tubes are vintage RCA, 1950's to 1960's, meticulously selected for this amp from my vintage tube collection. These are widely regarded as the best sounding tubes ever. Tubes matter, and these are arguably the pinnacle. Since Champs are self biasing, you can swap any of the tubes out without rebiasing. Pop in some newer tubes to hear the substantial difference that vintage RCA tubes make in this amp. If your ears are like mine, you'll be rushing to put the RCA's back in!

4) Easy to connect to other speakers with the 1/4" phone plug rig I installed. Just unplug from the double female connector and easily jack into your other cabs. (see pics)

Cosmetics:

The original grille cloth has 2 tiny hard to see dings in it (see pics). The tolex is generally excellent with a couple of tiny hard to see dings (see pics). Otherwise is it in very good to excellent shape for a vintage Fender.

I've played through many Champs over the years, and this one stands out. Easily loud enough for small to medium gigs and of course there are countless hit records made with Champs.

Other condition notes:

You can see in the pics that someone back in the day removed the ground from the original power plug. Has always worked fine for me for I never bothered to correct this. Since the original power cord is in great shape besides that, there's no need to replace it. Just get a standard 3 prong replacement plug from the hardware store for a few bucks and wire it up if need be.

A word on shipping.

If you are in the Jacksonville FL area you are welcome to audition and pick up locally. If shipping, I will personally pack and ship the amp with an oversized carton an plenty of bubble wrap. Tubes removed, labeled and packed individually. I have shipped several vintage tube amps without incident. Please know that if shipped, however, it will be on an "as-described" basis.

Please message me with any questions.
