Here for sale we have a lovely Gibson Advanced Jumbo slope-shoulder dreadnought acoustic guitar in Vintage Sunburst finish. Made in the USA in 2007, this guitar is a reissue of one of the most sought after & valuable vintage acoustic guitars money can buy. The original Advanced Jumbo was produced in limited numbers from 1936 to 1938, with around 300 being made. It featured a sloped-shoulder design & 25.5" scale, and 'advanced' bracing, and delivered an impressive amount of volume which made it very popular in a time before electronic amplification. The guitar was replaced by the Super Jumbo series (SJ-100 & SJ-200), although the Advanced Jumbo remained popular amongst artists & collectors who could get their hands on one. The instrument was reissued by Gibson in 1990 and remained in production until 2012. After that the guitar was only available as a Custom Shop historic reissue at a considerable premium.

Produced in Gibson's Bozeman, Montana workshop in 2007, this instrument features an all-solid dovetail construction comprising a Sitka Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back & sides, Mahogany neck & 20 fret Indian Rosewood fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is bound in Ivoroid, whilst the top is adorned with a multi-stripe rosette & Firestripe pickguard. The fingerboard is inlaid with MoP Diamonds & Arrowheads, matching the headstock inlays, & the old-style Gibson script logo. A Bone saddle & nut are fitted, along with a set of Nickel open-geared Gotoh tuning machines.

The Mahogany neck plays very well, with the 'Traditional Rounded' profile filling the hand nicely for a substantial yet articulate playing experience across the register. Certainly on the slimmer side for a vintage reissue, there is plenty of scope for tricky chord voicings & big stretches. The guitar has an unusual-for-Gibson 25.5" scale length. This means the strings have slightly more tension than is typical, making this instrument feel distinct in Gibson's line up. The Rosewood of the fretboard is pleasant under the fingers, with its nice tight grain & dark appearance providing a smooth & durable playing surface to explore. The inlays are rather unique & add a touch of luxury.

The acoustic voice of the Gibson Advanced Jumbo is big & powerful, and lives up to the nickname 'Cannon' which has been affectionately bestowed upon the instrument by players. The Spruce top projects beautifully well, with the longer 25.5" scale working in conjunction with the 'advanced' bracing pattern to really engage the top. The Rosewood of the back & sides yield a broad frequency response with warmth & rich sparkling overtones, perfectly complimenting the brightness & snap of the Spruce top. This is an excellent example of one of Gibson's finest designs with vintage-accurate appointments, which at almost 20 years old is developing its very own vintage vibe.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall good condition. The top edge and corners demonstrate consistent indentation and scuffing, which in places pierces the finish revealing the wood beneath. This continues to a lesser degree around the perimeter of the headstock, most consistently to the front face treble side edge. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate light scratching visible only under direct lighting, most concentrated on the front face.

Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates light indentations to the center of the profile throughout the register, somewhat difficult to discern beneath the thumb. A moderate indentation is apparent to the treble side of the profile beside the 4th fret, piercing the finish slightly. A mild indentation which has lightly pierced the finish is present at the heel.

Body: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate consistent light to moderate scratching and indentation visible under direct lighting at certain angles. This is most consistent to the front face lower bout, where some indentations pierce the finish slightly. The rear face demonstrates a moderate scuff across the center of the face causing a dulling of the finish.

Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use, with some indentation beneath the treble strings not affecting playability. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work.
