Yamaha's flagship original model, the SG1000!!
Yamaha began developing electric guitars around 1965. At the direction of then-president Genichi Kawakami, staff were tasked with creating a fully original electric guitar design. This led to the development of the Yamaha SG. The SG1000, released in 1976, remains one of the most beloved and representative models in the SG lineup to this day. Features first introduced on the SG1000 include the Bi-Sound system, which produces single-coil-like tones by coil-tapping the humbucking pickups, and the Direct Circuit, which prevents high-frequency loss to ground.
The tone is notably warm, with a rich low-mid character. That rich low-mid quality gives it a P-90-like thickness when switched into Bi-Sound mode.
The SG1000, carrying on the spirit of the SG2000, stands as the "standard model" of the SG line and is an essential piece of Japanese vintage guitar history!
