We’ve received a used SF700 from the Super Flighter series, which was manufactured between 1977 and 1982.
Based on the date stamped on the pickup, it appears to be a relatively early model from 1978.
While it tends to be overshadowed by the SG in terms of popularity, this model actually offers excellent playability and great tone, making it a favorite among true connoisseurs.
While its specifications are relatively simple—unlike those of higher-end models featuring T-cross maple—its craftsmanship reflects the high precision of classic Japanese manufacturing.
That said, it has a somewhat unique construction, with a “half-and-half” body made of maple on the top and alder on the back.
Because the heavier wood occupies a large volume, the guitar has a substantial weight, but this contributes to its powerful and tight low-end response, which is one of its key attractions.
The sound is relatively powerful yet retains a clear, rich tone.
It produces a wonderful sound even when played through modern gear, and this guitar truly makes you feel why Yamaha has been loved for so long.
While its appearance is simpler than that of the popular SG series, the rounded body shape actually feels charming in its own right.
Please give it a try—you’ll experience a versatile sound that transcends generations!
[Condition]
Considering it’s nearly 50 years old, it’s in remarkably good condition.
Signs of use are visible throughout, and there are minor scratches here and there,
but the body top is particularly clean, with only one small, inconspicuous dent near the control panel.
The body back has a slightly noticeable dent on the contoured section, along with some buckle marks.
There is a slight tarnish on the metal parts, but it’s minimal, and the semi-open pickup covers show no wear.
The finish on the set-neck joint has developed some unevenness.
There are no critical issues such as muffled sound, and playability is good.
The endpin is slightly dented, and the original screw was deformed, so only that part has been replaced.
About 80% of the frets remain, and they appear to have been leveled, so they are in good condition.
We have confirmed that the truss rod functions, but it is slightly stiff in both directions.
Comes with a third-party gig bag.
*As this is a consignment item from a customer, it will be delivered as-is.
