First, here is the original Epiphone description text:
“Authentic look, sound and feel of a 60s Les Paul for every stage.
Few guitars can claim such legendary status as the Gibson Les Paul™ Standards from 1958 to 1960. They are valued for their beauty, excellent playability and exceptional tone, and are among the most popular vintage guitars in the world. They can be seen in the hands of countless musicians on concert stages around the world and heard on numerous hits. Epiphone is now proud to introduce the updated Les Paul Standard 60s, an “Inspired by Gibson” tribute to those legendary guitars, lovingly bringing back the feel and sound of the Les Paul Standards from that era.
Epiphone’s long friendship with Mr. Les Paul began in 1940, when Les experimented in the evenings at the former Epiphone factory in Manhattan and built one of the world’s first solidbody electric guitars. Les’ first solidbody guitar, nicknamed “The Log”, would later inspire the Les Paul™ Standard, regarded by many as the greatest electric guitar of all time. The Les Paul Standard 60s models from the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson™ Collection recreate the look, feel and sound of the Les Pauls from the early 1960s. They feature a mahogany body with a maple top. The mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid inlays, 22 medium jumbo frets and a fast-playing 60s SlimTaper™ profile. The 60s Kalamazoo headstock is equipped with high-quality Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and a Graph Tech® nut for absolutely reliable tuning stability, so you can spend more time playing and less time tuning. The sound of the Les Paul Standard 60s comes from a perfectly balanced set of Epiphone’s renowned ProBucker™ pickups, with a ProBucker 2 in the neck position and a slightly hotter ProBucker 3 at the bridge. Each pickup is wired to its own volume and tone controls with high-quality CTS® pots.”
This Paula is almost like new, with only a few signs of use and no major damage. The hardware is also in top condition.
The ProBucker 2 and 3 do a really good job. They simply sound amazing and, in our opinion, there is absolutely no reason to even think about replacing them.
Visually, it is really classy. The black Ebony finish on the maple top creates a beautiful contrast with the natural mahogany on the body and neck. Add to that the rosewood fingerboard with its lovely grain and the classic trapezoid inlays – a very harmonious Paula.
The neck with its 60s SlimTaper C profile is a dream. It is pleasantly flat, sits beautifully in the hand and makes the guitar very comfortable to play.
The frets showed virtually no signs of wear and the factory fretwork was generally quite decent. Only a few frets had to be levelled. Afterwards, we properly recrowned and polished the frets and gave the guitar a complete setup. Now it plays exactly as it should.
At approx. 3.89 kg, it has a comfortable Les Paul weight and feels nicely solid and well balanced.
A Paula to fall in love with.
