For sale is a 1981 Guild D-70 NT, serial number EF100034, made in Westerly, Rhode Island.
The D-70 was one of Guild’s premium American-made dreadnoughts, featuring a solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, bound body and neck, distinctive pearl fingerboard inlays, and gold tuners.
This is a very early example of the model. Guild’s serial-number records place EF100034 in 1981, the first year the D-70 appears in the company’s serial-number chart.
More importantly, this is a GREAT sounding guitar. It has the big, powerful voice you’d hope for from a vintage Guild dreadnought: strong bass, excellent projection, clarity and definition, and a very open, lively response.
The guitar presents very nicely for a roughly 45-year-old instrument. Please review the photos closely for condition and normal signs of age and use.
CURRENT SETUP / MEASUREMENTS:
• Low-E action at 12th fret: approximately 3.0 mm
• High-E action at 12th fret: approximately 2.5 mm
• Exposed saddle, bass side: approximately 2.5 mm
• Exposed saddle, treble side: approximately 2.0 mm
• Neck relief appears normal
Measurements are approximate. The guitar currently plays well, and I have intentionally left the existing setup and saddle alone rather than lowering the action for sale.
